All the colours of the rainbow

Last night we set out on a mission to get a great shot of the aurora reflecting off a lake. They were in the sky but still and watery like the lake itself. Actually the lake was frozen but was still reflecting the faint lights well.

Suddenly over our heads a light storm descended upon us. Greens, blues, pinks, reds, yellows and even lightning whites all flooding across the heavens in a rush. It was as if the sky was running with a selestial liquid fire. Natures beauty at its most amazing.

In Finnish, the phenomenon is called Revontulet which means "Fox fires". You may know it as the Northern Lights or Aurora Borialis. People used to believed the Aurora were created by Arctic Foxes running over the tundra, their fur emitting sparks into the sky as it touched the ground.
