About Levi Foxfires – Boutique Accommodation in Finnish Lapland

'Revontulet'

In Finnish, the phenomenon is called Revontulet which means "Fox fires". You may know it as the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. People used to believe the Aurora were created by Arctic Foxes running over the tundra, their fur emitting sparks into the sky as it touched the snow...

...and from this, our Foxfires was born.

living in the unreal world

Hi, we are British husband and Polish wife team Paul and Aggie and our Parson Russell Terrier, Gooseberry.

We met in London, where we had been living and working for nearly 15 years. Approaching our 40s, we start to be quite tired with fast city life so started thinking about another way to live. A way that meant we could spend more time together, slow down and be closer to nature.

We started looking at different destinations all over the world, mostly places we have visited at some point during our extensive travels. During one trip to the North we got engaged under the Northern Lights. It was our first time seeing them and they will always have special meaning for us when they appear. While we love the North, at that time, the Arctic was not on our list of potential destinations for a more relaxed life.

Then in 2017 we arrived in Levi for a holiday in the snow and we immediately fell in love with this place. We knew right there and then that we had to find a way to be here in Lapland under the Northern Lights permanently.

After only one day of holiday in Levi, we made the decision that this is the place for us and in August 2018 we moved here permanently. It was a long drive through eight countries and 7 border crossings but after seven days on the road we arrived to start our new life in the wild under the Northern Lights.

Levi felt like home after just one day of holiday here and today almost 10 years on from that moment it still does.

We started the Foxfires dream with private Aurora hunting in our first winter. For the second winter we built the Arctic Spa. In 2020 we completed the build of the guesthouse.

From the very beginning, we wanted Foxfires to reflect who we are. We have been involved in every project, from designing our buildings and creating the interiors to building furniture, landscaping the grounds and adding the countless little details that make Foxfires feel like home. It has always been a hands-on journey, and it still is today.

Foxfires has continued to grow,  in 2024 we welcomed Ice Cube, our beautifully renovated glass-roof cabin. In 2025 we designed and built Orava, our first cabin, and we are now building its sister cabin, Pupu.

Every new project begins in exactly the same way as the first one — with the simple hope of creating somewhere peaceful that we would love to stay ourselves.

We are so glad you found us, and we hope to welcome you to our little corner of Finnish Lapland one day.

See you soon.
