One of the most frequently asked questions we receive every season is, "When is the best time to see the Northern Lights?". Some even ask about specific dates, wanting confirmation on the visibility of the Aurora at those times.
Well, we are the experts, right? So, can we actually answer this:
I am traveling to Levi first week of March, will I see Aurora?
When is the best time to travel and witness the Aurora?
Which period is the safest for viewing the Northern Lights?
Is January a favourable month for observing them?
Is it uncommon to see the Aurora in December towards the year's end?
Can the Aurora be seen within 5 days of my stay?
How certain is it that I will see the Aurora if I visit for 3 days?
Which month is optimal for viewing the Aurora?
How frequently can the Northern Lights be seen within a week?
So, let us tell you something important.
Northern Lights season in Levi Lapland lasts from end-August to mid-April. So pick any date, make sure you organise your trip to the Arctic in the way that seeing the Northern Lights will be a bonus but if you don’t see them, you will enjoy your holiday anyway. Book Lapland activities that will create amazing memories of your holiday above the Arctic Circle. Then hope that Mother Nature is kind to you. Why we give you this advice?
Predicting the Northern Lights far in advance is impossible, much like forecasting the weather three months ahead (predicting them on the night is also near impossible!) Also, keep in mind that if the sky is completely overcast, the Northern Lights won't be visible as you won't be able to see the sky. We can see the weather forecast only 10 days in advance, but as you know, how often is the forecast accurate from the morning to the evening...
If we would like to travel to your city/town/village in about 6 months time from now, and we will ask you what the weather will be in a specific day, will you be able to tell us? It's the same here. So pick your date and follow our Northern Lights guide to increase your chances to witness this amazing spectacle in the sky.
Remember to follow us on instagram (@levifoxfires), we are sharing there videos of the Northern Lights when they appear.
So how can you make sure you will see the Aurora when you are in Lapland?
Well, the short answer is you can’t. There’s no guarantee that they will be visible while you are visiting the Arctic. In the Aurora season you have equal chances each month to see it (but September, October and March are much less cloudy). So pick your date and make sure you follow our Northern Lights guidance in "Our winter guide to Levi Lapland" or Northern Lights guide Based on our 10 years experience, we tell you how to increase your chances to see the Aurora and what 5 common mistakes to avoid.
Good Luck
