What is your budget?
This is a very important decision to make for a Lapland holiday. There are hotels and cabins to suit all budgets. If you decide to stay in one of the more unique accommodation offerings (like our new glass-roof cabin), you need to be aware that they come at a high price. Also during high season (Christmas and New Year) Lapland is busiest and prices are highest.
What type of accommodation you are looking for?
There are different types of accommodation in Lapland: unique accommodation such as glass igloos or ice hotels, hotels, cabins and apartments, some are in the village centre, some outside and some many kilometres from the village, so everyone will definitely find a place that suits their needs best.
In our Lapland guide we provide you links to different accommodation in Levi so you can see all the options and book directly.
What is your preferred location at your destination?
It is very important to match the location of your accommodation to your holiday desires. If you would like to be very close to all the restaurants, bars and nightlife, make sure to choose a destination that has all these things first and then look for a place in the centre or within walking distance of the centre. If you prefer to spend your holiday in the peace and quiet of nature but still close to the hustle and bustle of the centre, then research accommodation which can fulfil this need and don’t choose a place with a view of a car park. As example - Foxfires is located in the peaceful forest but only 10 minutes drive from Levi village centre. Or maybe you want to stay in a cabin in the middle of the forest and far from civilisation - you can easily find that in Lapland.
Do you want self-catering?
If the answer is yes, then you need to choose accommodation with a kitchen and all the equipment you need. In Lapland this will usually be a cabin or apartment.
Will you rent a car?
This will really depends where are you staying and what you are planning to do. If you are staying in an apartment in the village centre, are planning to ski and you have activities booked with pick up from the centre, then you might not need a car. But if you want to have more freedom to explore what’s around or maybe you are staying somewhere not within walking distance of the centre, then renting a car is probably a good cost effective idea.
What else is important for you?
Is your plan to ski every day, do you want to be next to the slopes? If so, close ski-in/ski-out accommodation is available. If you like to go for walks in nature, then choosing accommodation with easy access to winter walking trails is also possible. Igloo villages are always outside of the village centres, so this should be kept in mind when planning your trip.
And at the end a very important tip - we recommend reading reviews on TripAdvisor, Google, booking.com etc. Reading what other guests are saying, what are the reason that they like a place or an experience or why they have some negative comments. This will give you a nicely rounded picture of your choices.
We are all different and we like different things so what for one person is a deciding factor to book it, for another person the same thing could be a dealbreaker reason not to book. For example, availability of kids’ programs for a family might be an incentive to book it, but for a couple on honeymoon it might not be the most romantic setting.
