This is one of the most asked questions we get. The answer is not so straight forward. When you come depends on what you want to do and see and experience.
Lapland is a very unique place. It's well known as a winter destination; however, not many people realise that Lapland is an incredible place to come in the summer and autumn too.
When is best to come could be different for you and us because we are all different and we like different things. You might be very surprised when we tell you that December is not your only choice for a visit if you're searching for the Christmas atmosphere in Lapland. Us locals start decorating our houses and businesses with fairy lights and candles as early as October to fend off the winter darkness. At Foxfires, in our Arctic Spa, we keep the lights and candles glowing until the end of the season in mid-April. These lights not only help us deal with the darkness but also create a magical ambiance against the backdrop of the white snow.
Meeting Santa doesn't have to be limited to December either. In Lapland, you can see Santa at any time of the year. He lives and works here you see! To avoid the busiest times, we usually visit him outside the peak season (yes, we have met him many times just to say Moi!).
In "Our winter guide to Levi Lapland" we advise you on when is best to come to experience different winter activities, to see reindeer in a wild, to search for the Northern Lights, to see the Midnight Sun, when you can forage wild food, when is best to enjoy biking, water sports, 24 hr golf, when to come to see snowy trees, pink skies, when is safe to walk on frozen lakes and finally which period to avoid if you are coming to Lapland to improve your well being.
We also wrote a description of how each month in Lapland can be. In addition to the description of each month, there is also a short description of what is happening in Levi so you will be able to determine when is best for you to visit.
