Snowy trees

Snowy trees are a calling card of Lapland, however, they are not here all the time. Through November to February you should see them. However, if we get a windy day the snow will be blown from the trees. It is usually very still here, in winter 22/23 the snow stayed on the trees until February. But in winter 20/21 we had a lot of wind and we lost the snow from the trees many times. Thankfully we get a lot of snow so it kept coming back. Keep in mind that weather conditions play a significant role. It’s usually quite still in Lapland but winds do come and when they do trees could shed some or all of their snow. Don’t worry it happens only a couple of times each winter.

Typically, the first snowfall that remains arrives in Lapland by mid-October. Depending on the weather conditions, snowfall volume, and location, trees may already be blanketed in snow by November. These two photos were captured in the same spot, only two weeks apart. It's clear how the snow coverage has increased over time.

What about March and April?

Our first visit to Lapland was in March, when the trees had shed most of their heavy snow cover. Despite this, we instantly fell in love with Lapland after spending just one day in Levi, and that day we made the decision to move here permanently. Aggie captured this photo during that trip - it's hard not to fall in love with this picturesque scenery.

The frosted trees hold a unique beauty. They do not require complete snow coverage to appear stunning. The photo below was also captured on our first visit to Lapland and will soon be offered as a limited edition print at “Our Little Gift Shop” beginning in the 2024/2025 season.
